Our Annual 100 Year Flood of 2017

It's bad enough to have a 100 year flood once in 100 years. We've now managed to pull two of them off in just eighteen months! December 2015 and now April of 2017. (The pics here are all from 2017)

While the water level of the 2015 flood was about 12 inches higher, both were equally devastating to the region. There were areas that were hit harder this time than last. There were two big differences between this flood and the last one for us. First, this time it didn't quite make it into the pool. Not that water in the pool is a big issue. It's just getting the silt vacuumed and filtered out takes longer. The other difference was that in the 2015 flood, the lower level of Rainbow Haven Resort had an office and two lodging units which were destroyed. After being cleaned out to nothing but concrete floors and ceiling, we decided to leave them and use them for kayak storage and laundry.

This flood came and went. Even though not quite as high as the other one, it had nothing to damage beyond getting things wet that were easy to dry out. (Note the high water mark in the kayak storage area from 2015 on top and 2017, the lower one) This flood was very inconvenient but not as much as it could have been later in the season. Repairs have been minimal but it still left it's mark. Mostly in cancelled reservations during a week when we were actually complexly booked due to an event being held in town. Had the power been restored earlier we may have salvaged some of the business, but that's the way it goes some times.

Today is May 9th and we are completely open for business. The sun was shining, Tom and Janice were getting the laundry room ready for the machines to be set back in. we took some reservations and even had some time to sit on the deck enjoying the beautiful day. I'm grateful this was no more traumatic than it was, but still I'm not quite ready to make it an annual event either.

The following are more pics of the flood of 2017. The final one is the pool from this morning.

The water comes up. The water goes down. We just keep on moving forward in all of it!

See You at the Dock!

After it's all said and done...........Here comes the Sun!
